Trusted campus and national fire safety organizations

Penn State works with trusted campus and national fire safety organizations to strengthen fire prevention, preparedness, and emergency response across the University. These partnerships—including the Center for Campus Fire Safety, the U.S. Fire Administration, the National Fire Protection Association, and Penn State University Police and Public Safety—support education, code development, data‑driven prevention efforts, and coordinated response activities to help protect people, property, and campus operations.

Center for Campus Fire Safety

The Center for Campus Fire Safety focuses exclusively on reducing fire risks in higher education. It serves as a national hub for campus fire and life safety information, education, and advocacy—helping colleges and universities share best practices, learn from incidents, and strengthen prevention efforts.

Access Information on the CCFS National Hub website.

United States Fire Administration (USFA)

The U.S. Fire Administration supports fire prevention, education, research, and training nationwide. Through data, public outreach, and partnerships, USFA works to reduce fire‑related injuries, deaths, and property loss, including risks associated with campus living, learning, and research environments.

Learn more about USFA, access their website.

National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)

NFPA develops and publishes widely adopted fire, life safety, and electrical codes and standards that form the foundation of modern fire protection. Its guidance, training, and public education campaigns help organizations design safer buildings, reduce hazards, and promote fire‑safe behaviors.

Access NFPA Codes and Standards.

Penn State University Police and Public Safety

University Police and Public Safety (UPPS) plays a critical role in campus fire safety through emergency response, preparedness, and coordination with Environmental Health and Safety. From alarms and evacuation support to education and emergency management, UPPS helps protect people, property, and continuity of operations across Penn State.
